CHINCHA THE JAGUAR ARRIVES AT DARTMOOR ZOO
22nd April 2015
On 22nd April, after much planning Chincha the Jaguar finally arrived at Dartmoor Zoo. He's two and a half years old and the whole team were thrilled to welcome him.
He arrived after a very long journey from France, and after transferring vehicles to get him as close as possible to his new house, he had to be carried, in his crate, by several very strong people into the enclosure so that he could be safely let into the house.
After helping carry the crate, Benjamin had to leave for Bournemouth for the Animal Charity Awards. Never a dull day!
Check out a video of his arrival here!
ANIMAL CHARITY AWARDS
22nd April 2015
Benjamin was honoured to be asked to host the Petplan and ADCH Animal Charity Awards in Bournemouth on 22nd April.
"Petplan and the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) have joined forces for the third year of these Animal Charity Awards. The inspirational event celebrates outstanding animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK who go that extra mile to help rescue and rehome animals in need.
Petplan has worked closely with animal rehoming centres for over 30 years and sees first-hand the fantastic work that goes on every day to help improve the welfare of animals. These awards provide an opportunity for people to recognise the dedication and commitment of charity staff and volunteers, and give pet owners a chance to say 'thank you'."
You can watch videos and learn more about the inspirational winners and finalists here.
The work that everyone involved undertakes is fantastic and so worthwhile. Congratulations to all and thank you for your hard work and dedication.

BENJAMIN VISITS AAP IN HOLLAND
4th April 2015
Benjamin and his two children went on a trip to Holland to visit AAP in Almere with the hope to be able to work with them in the future.
"AAP is a European sanctuary that provides professional care, rehabilitation, and housing for exotic animals. For over thirty years, this not-for-profit organization has served as a safe haven for animals who came from illegal trade, research laboratories, circuses, illegal zoos, or from private people as exotic pets."
They rescue, rehabilitate and try to find permanent homes for the animals they rescue. On top of this they work to make the case for better animal legislation in Europe. Benjamin and the children found the trip extremely inspiring and thought provoking, and Benjamin looks forward to working with them in the future.

'BIOPHILIA INCARNATE' TALK FOR PLYMOUTH MEDICAL SOCIETY
20th March 2015
Benjamin was honoured to be invited to give a talk to Plymouth Medical Society at their monthly meeting. The society is extremely old, having been founded in 1794 by medical professionals to promote: “Friendly intercourse and good feeling amongst its Members and to diffuse useful information by the circulation of books on Medicine and the Science connected with it.”
Benjamin conducted his talk on one of his areas of research - biophilia. He talked about the positive impact of nature on human health and well-being and about the examples that can be seen at the zoo. These examples, to name but a couple, take the form of Grow 4 Good Southwest and the many volunteers the zoo works with on a daily basis that have experienced the benefits of nature first hand.
11th March 2015
On 11th March 2015 Benjamin was invited to London to take part in the London Leaders Event for Raise the Bar speakers agency, showcasing his motivational speaking.
Liz Clark, the Marketing Manager for Raise the Bar said:
"We hosted another successful London Leadership event last week with De Vere Venues.
Our guest speaker was Benjamin Mee, Director of Dartmoor Zoo and the inspiration behind the Hollywood movie starring Matt Damon, 'We Bought a Zoo'. Benjamin was fantastic and really inspired the audience with his speech covering the topic of 'Taking a Leap of Faith'.
We were delighted that Benjamin personally signed two copies of the 'We Bought a Zoo' DVD, which were awarded to two lucky guests for the best contribution to our Twitter coverage of the evening.
Benjamin wowed the audience with his insight into overcoming adversity and thinking positively to succeed.
A big thank you to Benjamin for an uplifting presentation which we're sure our guests thoroughly enjoyed."
