BENJAMIN AND THE KIDS TAKE THE UNIDOME FOR A TEST RUN ON THE LOOKOUT FOR WOLVES
8th July 2014
Benjamin, Milo and Ella visit Portugal on a research trip for the Iberian wolf conservation program that Dartmoor Zoo is involved in and hopes to expand.
The trip involves a visit to the Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre near Lisbon which is run by Grupo Lobo, and a visit to Almeida where Zoo Logical tracks wolves and tries to change public perception on these beautiful creatures. They are considered a pest and in some places shot on sight. Consequently numbers are low.
The aim is to have a breeding programme at Dartmoor Zoo to help increase numbers, and also to help on the ground to educate people about why they should be saved.
As part of the trip they have been tracking wolves and camping beneath the stars in one of the fantastic Unidomes that will soon be on site at the zoo itself.
